Using Stallion is not a difficult affair. To start, head over to Stallion.
On the left, you'll see a list of races. Select the first race.
This will populate the main area with the details of your selected race. We'll get to that in a moment.
If you click "Meeting" at the top of the race list, you'll see that the list of races switches to only showing races from that meeting. This is useful when you're focusing on a particular track that you have a promotion for.
Next, click on the "Planner" button at the top of the race list.
Using the Planner
The purpose of the planner is simple - load in all your bookmaker promotions for the day, and Stallion will automatically load the appropriate bookmakers for each race, with their promotions applied.
It'll also highlight which races have promotions attached in your race list, making it easy to identify important races.
With "Today" selected, click "Add Promo".
Select any meeting, and for that meeting select (all) races.
You'll see that you're given the option to select which promotion you have for that meeting. For our example, let's just select "Bonus Bet on Place".
Choose any bookmaker from the list, and click save. The promotion saves to the table below. Close the planner.
In the race list, the races for the meeting you just added to the planner now have a gold border, indicting that there is a promotion attached. Select one of these races.
Using the Race View
With a race selected, the main area populates with the race details. Working our way from the top to the bottom, you see numbered buttons corresponding to the races at the meeting. You can click these to quickly jump between races.
Next, the settings button collapses and expands the settings panel. Adjacent is the exchange button, which shows the state of exchange markets associated with this race. By clicking this, you'll be shown the win fee associated with each market we've indexed at the exchange, as well as the current lay market underround (as a percentage %), and the matched volume.
We'll come back to the Viewer shortly.
A countdown indicates how long until the race's scheduled start time.
"Odds Fast"/"Odds Delayed" indicates whether the sportsbook has live odds for this race yet. As racing odds tend to move quickly closer to the jump, and very slowly further out from the jump, we index odds in two modes. Hovering over this badge will show you details of the current indexing scheme.
The next badge shows the status of the Betfair win market.
- Going in Play: The market is open, and betting will be permitted in-play.
- Open: The market is open.
- Suspended: The market is suspended - betting is not permitted.
- Closed: The market is closed.
Settings Panel
The settings panel should start expanded. This is where you adjust the manner in which Stallion calculates expected value of each bet proposition.
In the top right you have options to adjust both the EV mode, and the underlay.
The EV mode determines how Stallion calculates expected value for each runner. The options are:
- Bonus Bet on Place: Calculates EV for the bonus bet on place promotion.
- Bonus Bet on Win: Calculates EV for the bonus bet on win promotion.
- Extra Profit on Win: Calculates EV for the extra profit on win promotion.
- Mug: Calculates the expected return of betting without any promotions.
- Bonus Bet (SNR): Calculates EV for converting bonus bets into cash.
By setting the EV mode to the value you selected when you entered the promotion in the planner, Stallion will automatically load your chosen bookmaker and begin calculating expected values for each runner.
The bookmaker you selected will appear with the "PROMO" badge. Next to this is the button to open the current race at the bookmaker.
Click the scroll button beneath your bookmaker. This will open the popover to create a "Play" for this race.
Creating a Play
As we've already learnt, a "Play" is a collection of related bets that together form a single betting strategy. For a Bonus Bet on Place promotion, a Play consists of a back bet at the bookmaker, and a lay bet at the exchange (if not underlaying at 100%).
Imagine this: you've just entered a position at your bookmaker and laid off the bet at the exchange. This is your "Play". You could go over to the Tracker and enter the details of this bet manually, but that takes time away from finding your next bet. Instead, you can create a Play in Stallion. This Play gets saved to your Scratchpad, where you'll be able to add it to the Tracker later. Once added to the Tracker, PuntPilot will automatically monitor the Play and resolve it where possible.
Race Table
Finally, we have the most important part. The race table. This table lists all the runners in the race for each bookmaker, sorted by expected value.
- Runner Position: The runner's number.
- Runner Name: The name of the runner.
- Back Bookmaker: The back bookmaker these odds correspond to.
- Back Odds: The current back odds for this runner at the bookmaker.
- Lay Odds: The current lay odds for this runner at the exchange.
- Lay Stake: The recommended lay stake for this runner at the exchange, based on your underlay percentage.
- Expected Return: The expected return of this bet proposition, assuming no promotion applies.
- Expected Value: The expected value of this bet proposition, factoring in the promotion.
If underlaying, you'll see the following two columns instead of Expected Return:
- Expected Return Back Wins: The expected return if the back bet wins.
- Expected Return Lay Wins: The expected return if the lay bet wins.
Next to the expected value for each runner, you'll see a confidence indicator. This indicates how confident Stallion is in the expected value calculation for this runner. If you hover over the indicator, you'll see more details about how the expected value was calculated.
- Fair Odds: Our calculated fair odds for this runner winning.
- Fair Odds Source: Either Bookmakers or Exchange. Bookmakers indicates that the fair odds were derived from the average of all indexed devigged bookmaker odds, while Exchange indicates that the fair odds were derived from the exchange lay odds.
- EV Confidence: High, Medium, or Low. This indicates how confident we are in the expected value calculation.
If you've selected "Bonus Bet on Place" as your EV mode, you'll also see the following additional values:
- Fair Place Odds: Our calculated fair odds for this runner placing.
- EV Source: Bookmakers, Exchange, Virtualized or EW Approximation. How we calculated the fair place odds. Bookmakers indicates that the fair place odds were derived from the average of all indexed devigged bookmaker place odds, Exchange indicates that the fair place odds were derived from the exchange lay odds, Virtualized indicates that we used our virtualized place odds model to derive the fair place odds, and EW Approximation indicates that we used the each-way approximation method to derive the fair place odds.
When EV source is "Virtualized" or "EW Approximation", the confidence indicator will always be "Low", as these are less accurate methods of deriving fair place odds. We do not recommend placing bets when the EV source is either of these methods. We still return the expected value to give an indication of where the value lies, but recommend waiting for better data.
Using Viewer
Finally, we have the Viewer. Viewer handles jumping between bookmaker and exchange markets as you move between races. This makes it easy to quickly place your bets without having to manually search for each market.
Click "Open Viewer". A new tab will open. Each Viewer tab denotes one bookmaker or exchange that it will handle. You can open as many Viewer tabs as you like, each for a different bookmaker or exchange.
We recommend moving each Viewer instance to its own browser window, and arranging these windows on your screen so that you can see all of them at once. This makes it easy to quickly place your bets.
The Viewer will instruct you to select a bookmaker. Do so by clicking the "Select Bookmaker" button, and choosing the bookmaker from the list.
Popup warning
Your browser may block us from opening tabs. If so, you'll need to allow popups for PuntPilot in order for Viewer to work correctly. We only need this permission to open and close the bookmaker and exchange markets for you.
With the bookmaker selected, Viewer will open the market at the bookmaker for the race you have selected in Stallion. Try changing races in Stallion. You'll see that Viewer automatically updates to the correct market for the selected bookmaker. It also handles closing the previous market for you.
